Hannah and Mike’s Surf Hotel Wedding in Buena Vista

July 28, 2025

A laid-back, black tie kind of day with riverside portraits, real emotion, and nonstop energy at the Surf.

There’s just something about a Surf Hotel wedding that hits different. Maybe it’s the mountains, the river, the way everything is walkable and effortlessly beautiful — or maybe it’s how calm it all feels once the day gets rolling. Hannah and Mike’s wedding had that energy from the start: stylish, grounded, and full of heart.

Getting Ready in Two Corners of the Surf

Hannah got ready in one of the balcony suites at the Surf Hotel, surrounded by her girls and that soft Colorado morning light. Everything felt calm and intentional — her dress was clean and structured, and her bouquet brought in muted mauves, dusty pinks, and just enough wildness to keep it interesting.

Mike was just across the way at the Chateau with his guys, taking it easy and soaking in the moment. They got ready separately, which gave them time to settle in and process the day before seeing each other. And when they finally did…

First Look by the Ceremony Site

Their first look happened down by the ceremony courtyard — and it was one of those moments where everything else disappears. You could literally feel the shift. The nerves, the anticipation, all of it melted the second they locked eyes. We’ve seen a lot of first looks, but this one? This one stuck.

Ceremony in the Ivy Courtyard

They got married in the ivy-covered courtyard at the Chateau, surrounded by all their people. It felt intimate even with a packed guest list — cozy, emotional, and full of little moments you don’t always get to plan for. They included a water unity ritual that felt simple and meaningful, a quiet pause before the big celebration kicked off.

The weather delivered (thankfully) and guests had no trouble parking along the street and nearby. The whole vibe was effortless in the best way — no chaos, just real connection and that soft afternoon light bouncing off the walls.

Portraits With Some Edge

We split portraits before and after the ceremony so we could hit all the good spots without rushing. The elevator, the bar, the river, the iconic Surf Hotel sign — we made use of every corner. These two brought the energy too. Champagne, sunglasses, killer dance moves — you name it.

Everything about their portraits felt relaxed but intentional. A mix of editorial and real-life that gave us so much to work with.

Aperol Spritzes and One Hell of a Party

Reception was in the Ivy Ballroom and it did not disappoint. The room was warm and inviting, with dusty pink and mauve tones tying everything together. Hannah and Mike made their entrance with drinks in hand and the whole room already vibing.

There were emotional toasts, wild dance floor moments, and just enough chaos to remind you that everyone was having a damn good time.

Why We Love a Surf Hotel Wedding

We’ve shot here a lot and it never gets old. Everything’s close, the light is always good, and the setting gives you so much to work with without ever feeling like a “venue.” It’s got soul, and it gives couples room to make the day their own.

Hannah and Mike’s wedding was all the things we love most — honest, elevated, and overflowing with the kind of energy you don’t forget.
